Environmental Consultant Report

Environmental Consultant Reports

Construction activities, when left unchecked, have an impact on the environment. To ensure that all construction activities will have minimal impact on the environment, certain regulatory requirements and standards are in place. The guidelines and the standards are based on the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA, and failure to comply with the requirements and standards may result in sanctions. This is where an environmental consultant report can help property owners and project engineers. Drafted by an environmental consultant, this report lists the investigations, monitoring and remediation made on project sites.

What are the Roles of an Environmental Consultant?

Environmental consultants provide assessment and expert advice to the construction industry relating to the effects and management of environmental issues.

They are at the forefront of identifying environmental compliance, and if non-compliance is reported, the consultants will provide recommendations on how to reduce the detrimental impacts of construction activities on the environment. Environmental consultants are guided by the policies and standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including the creation of reports.

What is Included in the Environmental Consultant Report?

Based on the standards set by EPA, an environmental consultant report should cover some investigation stages for it to be considered comprehensive and reliable. It is expected that the consultant report should cover a preliminary site investigation, a detailed site investigation, remedial action, validation and monitoring. Based on EPA standards, the reports for each stage can be presented separately or can be combined in one report. However, each investigation stage should stand alone and should comply with EPA guidelines.

Another important component of the report is the Remedial Action Plan (RAP). This section of the consultant report should identify the remediation goals that will ensure that the target construction site will pose no risk to the environment or human health. The action plan will also list down the detailed procedures and plans to be implemented in the project site, and will also establish a set of environmental safeguards to be adopted by the project team.

For a comprehensive review and monitoring, the environmental consultant may list down objectives and will be evaluated using a checklist. The ‘Conclusion’ will complete the environmental consultant report where the consultant in charge will prepare a summary of the findings and recommendation for further work, among others.
